Our European Adventure: From Amsterdam to Paris

What a wonderful experience! We never imagined we would enjoy traveling this much. Surprisingly, some of the most fun moments happened during the planning phase. While researching, we uncovered fascinating history, learned practical tips like where to stay and what foods to try, and discovered activities we could tweak to suit our interests. Every bit of planning added to the excitement, making the journey feel even more personal and unforgettable.

I’m bringing together all the links from our trip in one place. From the charming canals of Amsterdam to the gardens and museums of Paris, you can revisit each city and attraction and explore every moment of our adventure in detail.

In Amsterdam, we immersed ourselves in art and culture, visiting the famous Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. We wandered through the charming canals of Giethoorn, visited iconic windmills in Zaanse Schans, and explored the picturesque harbor of Volendam harbor. In Rotterdam, the quirky Cube Houses were a fun and fascinating stop.

In Belgium, we admired the stunning Ghent Cathedral and fell in love with Bruges—our all-time favorite, thanks to its beautiful canals and storybook charm.

In the Loire Valley, we were enchanted by four breathtaking châteaux: Château de Chambord, Château de Cheverny, Château de Chenonceau, and Château d’Amboise—each with its own unique history and charm.

In France outside Paris, we explored the grandeur of Versailles, the historic streets of Rouen, and the tranquil beauty of Giverny, discovering the rich history and serene landscapes of the region. 

Finally, in Paris, we explored the artistic and historic treasures of the city. From the vibrant streets of Montmartre to the iconic Eiffel Tower, from the Musée d’Orsay and Tuileries Garden to the stunning Sainte-Chapelle, the charming Le Marais, peaceful Luxembourg Gardens, and the enchanting village of Giverny, Paris offered a perfect mix of history, culture, and everyday magic.

Our First Day in Amsterdam

This is part of our Europe travel series. Catch up on the first part  here . Our journey began on May 15 from Charlotte, with a layover in Washington, D.C. After a long overnight flight, we landed at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol the next morning. One thing that immediately impressed us was how efficiently everything was organized. The train station is located directly beneath the airport an incredibly convenient design. From there, trains connect to every part of the country. Within ten minutes, our train arrived right on time. That was the moment it truly felt real our European adventure had officially begun. We got off at Zuid Station and stepped outside. A Day at Versailles: Palaces, Gardens, and Royal History

The Palace of Versailles is a powerful symbol of French royalty, luxury, and elegance. It began as a small hunting lodge built by King Louis XIII in the 1600s. Later, his son, King Louis XIV, expanded it into a magnificent palace that reflected the power and wealth of the French monarchy. Located about twenty kilometers from Paris, Versailles became the center of royal life when Louis XIV moved his court there and ruled France from this grand palace. In later years, Louis XV added new wings and buildings to the complex. The final royal residents, Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, were forced to leave the palace during the French Revolution.
