One of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea, Santorini is famous for its dramatic volcanic landscape, whitewashed villages, blue-domed churches, and spectacular sunsets. The island’s most distinctive feature is its vast caldera, formed when a massive volcanic eruption caused the center of the ancient volcano to collapse thousands of years ago. When we were planning our Greece trip, we watched a video of Meteora and immediately fell in love with it. It didn’t look real at first—huge rock pillars rising from the ground with monasteries built on top, as if they were floating in the sky. At that moment, we knew we had to visit.
